Who is avenged sevenfolds new drummer

Mike just destroyed on the record. He was perfect. But at the time, our tour manager brought up Brooks' name as well. But at the time he was also busy with Bad Religion and it was also … people were going to look at it differently because he was a punk drummer at this point.

The band also feels strongly about bringing in Arin Ilejay in the middle of their touring and working him into the band, but felt that they needed something different to be the band they wanted to be. I understand why we're going to do that. He adds, "It just got to the point where after Mayhem Festival last year, we had just decided to fire on all cylinders the way we want to, we needed to make a change. And we all had our little talk. We said, 'Listen, we can ride this thing out the way it is right now and we'll be fine or we can shake the nest a little bit and we want to fire on all cylinders again.

We want to be the baddest band on the planet. We want to just dominate onstage. And I came up with the idea that I really want to talk to Brooks and see if there's any chance and see where he's at in his life right now. The vocalist added that they did not hold auditions for the drum spot, but rather it was all initiated with whether or not Wackerman would be interested.

And one of the things was let's give Brooks a call and see what he's doing. Our very own Brooks of course! No pressure then! He contributed to the last six Bad Religion releases.

Unfortunately, due to an acute fear of flying after his infamous near death experience in a plane crash five years previously, Blink drummer Travis Barker was unable to make his way across the globe to make the shows. Which stuck with him throughout the tour. Remember when Korn used to have most of their band shrouded behind a curtain? Daily garage jams with his bros were invaluable for the burgeoning Brooks, as were seven years of private lessons with legendary drum teachers Chuck Flores and Murray Spivack.

All the top-tier drummers were in that band, and I had never heard a band that tight, that eclectic. He was someone who could play a symphony and then also debate a political team on CNN. The constant presence of his all-star brothers was never tarnished by silly sibling rivalries.

While his brothers built reputations playing with legit fusion acts, Brooks was typecast as a punk rock drummer right out of the gate. It just so happened that he took on the most challenging one of the bunch first, which, strangely, primed his chops for the others that followed. His much-praised facility on double bass drums took its original cues from the metal and heavy-rock drummers he loved as a lad.

For example, on solos he would play something on his hands and mimic the same pattern on his feet, and I thought his syncopation was really creative. Turns out our interview at this particular locale is a nice little homecoming for Wackerman. It was in this very studio where his teenaged band Bad4Good had their first publicity photo shoots done in He smiles at the memory.

We begin talking about recording with his new kit. He opted for a bigger footprint for his new gig with Avenged, and worked hand-in-hand with producer Joe Barresi to fine-tune his new setup for maximum metal musicality. As opposed to how some guys tune all their toms very low, I like tuning the racks higher for articulation, and for them to sing a bit more. So we zeroed in on getting each drum its own voice and finding the timbre in each drum. The album was recorded at United Recording on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, the site of the former Ocean Way Recording and, prior to that, the original United Recording which opened in , whose legendary recording sessions fairly seep out of the walls.

And actually, my first record, with Bad4Good, was tracked there as well, so it was nice coming home after so many years. Besides having two or three mikes in each kick, the drum microphone arrangement was typical. All songs were recorded live, with the entire band together in the room, which gave Wackerman the option of tweaking his parts after the fact. I do yoga weekly, and I enjoy doing that because it clears my mind.

And I have twin six-year-old boys who are like two Power Rangers around me. A daily practice schedule is part of the regimen, a routine that changes with each session.
