Adrienne is very into films and she enjoys a bit of everything: from superhero films to heartbreaking dramas, to low-budget horror films. Every time she manages to commit to a TV show without getting bored, an angel gets its wings. When she's not writing, you can find her trying to learn a new language, watching hockey go Avs! Breakfast food is life and coffee is what makes the world go round. It was great. By Adrienne Tyler Published Jan 09, Squidward Tentacles represents wrath.
According to the Bible, wrath is marked by uncontrollable hatred toward the world in general. After a harmless prank, Squidward retaliates by having Spongebob violently thrown around the Krusty Krab before being chucked in a garbage can. As Spongebob runs out of the establishment crying, Squidward maniacally laughs.
These are definitely actions of someone who lets their anger get the better of them. Texas is a state where people love sharing about how everything is bigger and better. It makes sense then that the character representing pride would be none other than Texas-bred squirrel, Sandy Cheeks. Sandy is also hyper competitive and has a tendency to overestimate her abilities due to her own ego. Sandy represents the sin of pride. In the Bible, pride is marked by a lack of regard for others. The first time Sandy meets SpongeBob, she invites him for tea in her underwater air dome.
Sandy - taking such pride in her Texas-bred land mammal status - fails to recognize the needs of her sea brethren. She personifies pride through her obsessive, egocentric mindset. The Seven Deadly Sins theory has been circulating around the Internet for awhile.
Though not every fan is on board, some can definitely see the connection. However, there is some debate over which characters represent which sins. Some argue that Squidward is closer to pride, while Sandy is closer to wrath.
On forums like Reddit , fans are quick to point out Squidward's condescending nature and Sandy's hotheaded tendencies to make the point. In a interview, voice actor Tom Kenny was asked about the theory.
While he didn't confirm that the creators of the show made the connection intentionally, he said he found the idea "flattering. And considering that there are seven primary characters on the show who've been around for years, it makes sense on a certain level. On the other hand, Mr. Krabs is the incarnation of greed, which is marked by an excessive love for money and material things.
Krabs lives for money, and will do anything to get it, even if that means putting himself and others at risk. Squidward hates almost everyone and everything in Bikini Bottom, except for himself and his clarinet. Last but not least, is SpongeBob himself, who according to the theory represents "lust".
