I've been team Peeta ever since the 1st book and I think that it's soo worth it!! I love Peeta and Katniss's relationship. I honestly couldn't believe that Katniss considered Gale as a romantic partner because I didn't like Gale for her.
I felt like they weren't good for each other. I felt like Katniss settled for the easy relationship.
She is traumatized and Peeta knows what that means. She doesn't have to work to be anything but her traumatized self. I just never got a love vibe from her for anyone but Prim. Her relationship with Peeta isn't just love, it's need and completion. Peeta has seen her in ways that Gale can never see no matter how long they've known each other. Things that happened in the games, Gale saw that on TV but Peeta was there, he knows and understands. I believe that Gale has tons of other chances to fall in love with someone else, but for Peeta and Katniss they have NO other chance but each other.
Katniss can never love properly, that emotion has been twisted and broken in her since before the games so she can never be completely in love with Peeta nor Gale. I don't think there's anything wrong in being with someone for survival if it's mutual. This is a form of love anyway, cuz neither Peeta nor Katniss can survive without the other. Jan 05, AM. I think at first she has to convince herself that she loves Peeta but only in a friend kind of way but I believe by the end of mockingjay she does truly love peeta and she finally shes him how he wants to be seen.
I think deep down inside Katniss lovews Peeta but doesn't want to admit it to herself because of Gale. Jan 06, AM. I think that she really did love Peeta. Even though I prefered Peeta, I was gutted when Gale just left, and how their friendship fell apart. I don't think that, even if the Games had never touched their lives, that Gale and Katniss wouldn't have been actively happy together as anything more than friends.
I think, like in the book, that the darkness between them would have grown up without the Capitol's help.
I think the reason we never fully knew if she really loved Peeta was that she couldn't admit it of perhaps even see it herself, because if she acknowledged her love for Peeta even to herself, others would pick up on it, and he'd be in danger. Also, I think she was protecting herslef from the truth, because if he was lost or hurt or left her, it would be too difficult for her to go on if she loved him.
Jan 07, PM. Even though she wasn't trying to find love with anyone to begin with, there were many things that Peeta and her experienced together that bind them for life.
They grew to love each other and I think that since they fell in love with each other in this way that it is a strong bond that will last for their entire lives :. I really didnt like Katniss for Peeta because I felt he was too good for her, he was the bravest character not in the sense of the word deadly he was willing to show his weakness and kindness with anyone. Feb 17, AM. I am very angry about how Katniss is portrayed in this book. So she almost wants to kill herself when Peeta is not rescued but then she is so weak in admitting to all readers what is obvious.
On the other hand it takes her exactly 2 min to decide and jump into the defense in the war. Doesn't this sound strange. Then she is willing to help everyone else except for the person she knows she loves when he needs her Its just that there are so many pieces not matching. She is strong personality but again not fighting for things that are most important to her personally I think we needed a little bit more strong person in the dealing with Prim, Peeta, and Gale.
Or is it just me? As to needing Peeta I think she could have survived without him too. She is always too caring for everyone else so she would have survived and at the end it is all genuine.
I like the way Collin puts it at the end she does not need more fire and what is the real answer :. In the beginning, we know she just got with Peeta and went along with the act for the camera's, but along the way she really fell for him. It wasn't just for survival or settling. She wouldn't have married him and had kids if she didn't love him. This is the girl who swore off marriage and kids. With Gale, feelings were questioned. But it's normal for a teenage girl to question whether she has feelings for the boy she grew up with.
And she discovered she didn't love him as more than a friend. Feb 21, PM. I don't think Gale was right about Katniss picking who she can survive with. To be honest, Katniss is kickass and she can survive on her own. I think Gale just meant that the Hunger Games have broken her, and she needs someone to help pick her up from the despair she's in. I do think she loves Peeta genuinely.
The things she's done for him are things you do out of love. I think it just took her a while to realize it. She was always questioning her feelings, not knowing what was real and what was her acting for the Capitol.
At the end of Mockingjay, they can finally be together without any Hunger Games. I think that's when she realizes she really loves him and can heal from that. As for Gale just leaving for District I think he left because he knew Katniss thought he killed Prim, and that she was an emotional wreck.
I think that was Collins' way of saying that Gale isn't what we thought he was. I never trusted him, to be honest.
Feb 22, PM. Deep inside, I guess she realised that Gale could and would find some other girl, in the long run. With Peeta, it was a lot more complicated. She has seen the boy with the bread, but she has seen the boy who cannot control his hardwired impulses to kill her. She knows that this is not the boy with the bread anymore. It is not the boy willing to die for her during the games. It is not the boy willing to die to kill her during the revolution. This is a new man, and she has a choice, invest in him, or do not.
She chooses to invest in him. She chooses to love him. If we look at The Hunger Games in this spectrum, we see a very positive message that goes against the popular norm. The popular norm of love is some amazing feeling that surpasses everything you could possibly feel and leads to marriage, kids, etc. Very few novels, movies, television shows, etc, portray love as a choice. Even when a man or woman stays with their counterpart after some grand betrayal, it is not portrayed as though they were making a conscious decision, but rather as a result of this overwhelming love.
I don't wish to downplay the emotion of "love," but rather to point out a counterpoint to the emotion -- the action of "love. The emotion of "love" is what can tear marriages apart when not coupled with the action , because the heart feels what the heart feels Affections and adorations change, mutate, evolve, shift, and without the action of love to strengthen the emotion Katniss does love Peeta.

Support for this is that Katniss does not want children but "after five, ten, fifteen years" she eventually agrees and gives Peeta two children because he wants them and because he "wanted them so badly.
At the close of Mockingjay, Peeta triumphed where his father failed. He got the girl he wanted and the harmonious and fulfilling home that he did not have growing up. He struggles with trauma but tries to cope and heal with Katniss and has the children that he strongly desired. Katniss' story arc leaves her without what she wanted most her sister Prim living or what she fought for most her sister Prim living, Rue living, saving Peeta but she finds hope and meaning in her relationship with Peeta and in the life that they have.
She has a distant acceptance of life but she continues on, trying to live day-to-day raising her children and managing her struggles with trauma. Question: You make their relationship sound so awful, but in reality, it is very sweet and charming.
Plus Peeta might not have had any idea that he was manipulating her in ways that were found harmful. Any healthy relationship has ups and downs. Don't you think that you could have made this article about the Hunger Games sound a little less judgmental? I make the argument that they had a realistic, complicated, and bittersweet love story and I provided support for this in the article. I do not argue that he is a dark person but that he is a manipulative person and that he manipulates Katniss.
Question: I don't think Peeta manipulated Katniss into having kids. Katniss tells Gale that she never wants children because of THG. She never wants to see them reaped, even says in CF that she imagines a world without THG, 'where Peeta's child could be safe.
Maybe she never had a strong want for her own children, but she thinks about the concept a lot. What do you think? Answer: You present a good viewpoint for that and I think this could be supported given the story and text. I think what you pointed out is supported or could be argued given the text.

I appreciated getting to read and to think about them. It can be argued that Peeta is just saying the comment and does not understand the context in which they were sleeping in the same bed but it can also be argued to be what I argue in the article. I think this part comes down to where the source of his comment comes from. Maybe I would read it more as the former? I thought the ties you drew to Collins putting Katniss in a position of owing Peeta the 3 times and putting Katniss in a position to repay him 3 times was interesting.
Katniss not wanting to owe people is an important part of her character as it speaks to both her desire to be self-reliant and to be able to take care of her family, and it is also tied to what it means to be in debt to others and the implications that come with that indebtedness and also how that relates to her poverty level. About doing worse and not deserving. The only thing I agree with is the confession of love and I would argue that he makes up for that in catching fire. A lot of people say that he feels bad that he forced her into that role. I am going to mainly touch on your comments on mockingjay. Or that she was switching between Gale and him.
Did he also know it was wrong for him to think like that? I am his. Anything else is unthinkable. To add some say that peeta was sent to the canteen table that day to see if Katniss could still almost set peeta off.

And he goes for dinner with his family. Katniss sees and goes up to him. Gale happens. Peeta comes to look after Gale in the morning then leaves.

It sucks. Although he may make her feel like she owes him. He was tortured for her 2. He saved prim and gale. I feel like when they first talked after the wedding. No one has told him that it was for a show. Which is fine being jealous is a healthy emotion. He was just incredibly unstable. Also he may of fulfillment his father wish but I think that if he had a choice between saving his family and having Katniss he would choose his family. Both Katniss and Peeta are the most important and well developed characters.

I came to understand the intentions of Peeta to gain Katniss love. But after all, arent we a little manipulative When we are in love? I mean we want the other person to love us, thats why often we find words like "win her or him over" or " get it",,, its true that in mockingjay peeta sees Katniss in a whole New light, and as while he is sorting out his thoughts on Katniss.
Katniss is only comparing the old peeta with this New peeta, and realizing her feelings for him. Roughly, Its like When x guy stops chasing a girl and is moving on.
The lack of affection that comes with it makes the girl realizes that she in fact cares for the guy. I think its superficial but it kind of happened with Katniss and hijacked peeta. Also how she yearns the comfort, she sees gale hard decisions and remembers little details of peeta, its clear that she loves him. Love is not about passion and lust, but When you feel at ease and comforted and you can call that person home.
And to Last, how nobody make peeta come back to the 12th, it was his choice. Because he cared and wanted to be with Katniss. Which, slowly in his own time, Katniss reciprocated. Because both of them needed each other, and needed healing and peace. Both of them needed love. Peeta went for Katniss and Katniss little by little accepted him in his heart. She loved him for Who he was and the other way around. I think its what we do in real life also, we hang in there with someone Who makes us feel good.
Thats the point of it right? Its not the sweetest start of a love story, but its realistic and in term of pureness at the end and how they seem to enjoy peace, worthwile.

By the end of the story, Katniss does love Peeta but she also settles for him; these are not mutually exclusive. I think your point is correct in that Katniss went through too much in her life to ever really fall in love with anyone and Peeta was who she was written to be with.
I just think that there is more to their relationship and dynamic than meets the eye and that there are definitely more things to factor in and recognize. There is more to a relationship than it meets the eye. It is a truly complicated love triangle. I also feel not all relationships are the same either. You can pretty much make a case for any which way of who should end up with who. I just always thought even if Peeta did return to District 12 after the war, Katniss if she really didn't love him would honestly let him know.
I understand they went through so much together and the experience has linked them forever but if Katniss didn't really love him the way he wanted, she would be straight forward with him. I also understand Katniss might feel like she owes him as well. I still believe in Katniss and Peeta being together though lol. The dream scene of her and Peeta when she is having a nightmare and tells him to stay with her gets me everytime lol.
When you dream of something I always thought that's what you really want in your life. She was dreaming of no one else but Peeta.
It is also quite obvious that at the end of the story they are both broken but I always felt they are both not really in "love" with each other as well. It's been awhile since I've written this and re-visited it after re-reading the books, but I do think that I could have put more in that regard in the analysis and I re-read that part in my analysis and it does read harder than I meant it.
Significantly, the love story does not excessively dominate the story. This is the tale of a special young woman leading the disempowered to fight a war against their oppressors, which, secondarily, features a love story. Gale points out in a stolen conversation with Peeta in Mockingjay — Part 2 that the question of whom Katniss will choose is likely academic; the chance that all three in the love triangle will survive is slim.
At that point, the choice between the two men is more a question of love versus duty. As time goes on, her fixation Peeta is increasingly obvious, but the story still implies that her devotion to Peeta is almost sisterly, born of duty and gratitude, another self-sacrifice rather than the ultimate desire of true romance. So, does she love Peeta from the start and learn it over time? Or do Katniss and Peeta fuse together irrevocably due to the extreme circumstances they are forced into?
Do all three members of the original love triangle change fundamentally and become altogether new selves in the crucible of the Games?
